Abstract

The objective of this scholarly research would be to gain understanding of the workplace policies, techniques, services supplied, and interactions between clients and workers in cash advance and name loan organizations in Northeast Alabama. Originally, we pursued interviewing workers of pay day loan and name loan companies by calling their job and requesting workers that would be happy to take part in interviews. We went into dilemmas of gatekeeping and discovered it hard to get access to workers prepared to be interviewed. The gatekeeping issues we faced after contacting more than 40 locations in various towns in Northeast Alabama and being unsuccessful, we redesigned our methodology to better accommodate. We decided rather on complete participant observation. This included the scientists visiting loan that is payday name loan companies, presenting a fictional tale about requiring that loan for dental treatments, and asking about the solutions available.
